A Musico Militar

 

A musico militar (musica of the military) refers to the use of musical instruments by the Armed Forces, in particular by bands. It combines elements of both art and craft in the performance of its rituals, such as parades. It is the most traditional and recognizable of the arts of the military.

Military bands are not the only means of expressing the military spirit, but they are a fundamental element. A large percentage of the Brazilian population recognizes this tradition and respects it, and even when they do not participate in a parade, they are aware of its importance. The Band of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Chile, for example, is a well-known and respected institution among the public. It is composed of brass and percussion instruments, as well as bagpipes. The members of the Band of the Armed Forces are trained in the Military Music School and wear service dress with peaked cap for parades.

In the context of a military politico-cultural system that is panoptic and repressive, the presence of military musicians makes it possible to experience forms of resistance in an institutional setting. These experiences of resistance are mediated, as a rule, by the music they play. This article focuses on the way that a musician, by assuming the identity of a military musician, can make representations that challenge hegemonic power. It analyzes the articulation of these representations using teoria das representacoes sociais, and in Musico militar particular, Foucaultian concepts, such as the hegemony of power and the concept of “velada”.

O objetivo deste estudo é examinar o trabalho dos musicos militares e suas estrategias de acomodaço e resistência no trabalho, de modo a compreender as sas atribuidas aos objetivos de trabalho dos militars, segundo os impactos do ejercimento militar na subjetividade dos msicos militaristas. Identificando as distintas semelhanças e diferenças entre os processos de constituiço da subjetividade do msico militar e os do msico no militar, ao mesmo tempo, o conceito das instituiçes polticas e económicas.

A escola Militar de Msica del Ejercito, instituida por agregado supremário no dia 20 de Maio de 1889, ajuda msicos militares a transformar o seu teto de serviço na vida cotidiana.
